Treadmills are one of the best ways to get in shape. They are easy to use and a safe and reliable way to lose weight. You can do your exercise on a treadmill while you watch your favorite TV show, listen to music, or even while you wait for the dryer to stop. It helps you to keep a steady pace and offers vital information at your fingertips. You can even keep an eye on the kids while you walk or jog your way to a healthier life. Because you use it inside your home, treadmills are not dependent on the weather and this makes it easy to stick to your exercise routine.
Few exercise machines can offer the benefits of a treadmill. It simplifies a natural physical activity that has been proven over time to offer the benefits of fat burning aerobic exercise, running. It also serves as a light impact physical activity by allowing the user to walk at their own pace causing less stress on the knees, back, hips, and joints. A medium-intensity workout on a treadmill can burn considerably more calories than a similar workout on a stationary bicycle because of the active muscle mass involved in each exercise. Walking, long considered the best exercise option for many people with certain health problems, is one of the most efficient and best exercises available to all of us. It boosts our immune system, improves circulation, encourages metabolization, burns fat, tone muscles, strengthens joints, improves coordination and motor skills, and a host of other benefits. This activity is often recommended for people with certain circulatory conditions, osteoporosis, people restricted from other forms of exercise, pregnant women, people that suffer from back or knee problems, and many other conditions where running, sports, or weightlifting are not an option.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) conducted a study, in cooperation with the University of Kentucky in Lexington and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, on the ways to reduce the adverse health effects of space travel on astronauts. What they found was that, astronauts experience heart and blood vessel changes, decreased bone strength, loss of muscle mass, and shifts in fluids within their bodies while in space. The research is part of a greater study to help astronauts deal with the possible health effects of space. Part of the way astronauts deal with these adverse reactions is by regular exercise on a treadmill while out in space. The research helps scientists understand how astronauts cope with long-term exposure to the low gravity of space or other planets and readjust to Earth's gravity, when they return home.
