Treadmill workouts are one of the best physical activities available to us. It focuses on a natural and proven activity that burns fat and tone muscles by encouraging metabolization. A treadmill workout improves coordination and motor skills making falls and injuries less likely. This type of workout boosts the immune system, improves circulation, and strengthens joints and soft tissue. In some cases, they offer the only exercise option for people suffering from certain diseases or medical conditions. This is the best exercise option for people with chronic back or knee problems, pregnant women, certain circulatory conditions, and for people that have problems performing other types of physical activities. A treadmill workout takes advantage of the natural and low stress physical activity of walking by allowing the user to control their stride at their own pace causing less stress on the back, hips, knees, ankles, and joints.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the University of Kentucky in Lexington, and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, conducted a study to determine the health effects of space travel on astronauts. They found that, astronauts experience heart and blood vessel changes, decreased bone strength, loss of muscle mass, and shifts in fluids within their bodies while in the weightlessness space. The research showed that part of the way that astronauts could minimize the adverse effects of weightlessness is by regular treadmill workouts. The research helps scientists understand how astronauts cope with long-term exposure to the low gravity of space or other planets and readjust to Earth's gravity, when they return home.
